World Economic Situation and Prospects 2026

The World Economic Situation and Prospects 2026 (WESP 2026) report finds that the global economy remains resilient but trapped in subdued growth, high uncertainty, and persistent structural challenges. Global growth is projected at 2.7% in 2026, well below pre-pandemic averages, with easing inflation offering some relief but high prices continuing to strain households, especially in developing economies. Debt burdens, limited fiscal space, climate shocks, and geopolitical tensions are slowing progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in LDCs, LLDCs, and SIDS.

The report highlights uneven regional growth, with modest recovery in Africa, steady but slow growth in developed economies, and relatively stronger momentum in parts of Asia. While trade proved resilient in 2025, it is expected to moderate, and investment remains weak outside a few AI- and technology-driven economies. WESP 2026 calls for renewed international cooperation, reforms to the global financial architecture, scaled-up development finance, and coordinated action on trade, debt, climate, and inclusive growth to steer the world toward a more resilient and sustainable future.
